Summer Sessions Special Event: Nihil Is Me/Amiina
A crossover between experimental cinema, visual art and live music, curated by Andrea Lissoni and Carlos Casas
Parades summer sessions are an ongoing experiment on the parade and its extension, an incentive to rethink the potential feedbacks between experimental film, visual arts and live music curated by Andrea Lissoni and Carlos Casas.
A parade may be a model for a movie? There is a film-parade? What happened in this sense in the history of experimental cinema? What about the soundtrack and its function? How the most interesting and radical Italian young musicians deal with these issues?
Wednesday 17th June Session program was the result of a collaboration with Ragnar Kjartansson, artist chosen to exhibit on Iceland’s behalf at the 53rd Biennale in Venice 2009. This gave birth to the unique combination of the two concerts Nihil Is me/Amiina.
Program:

10.30 pm: Amiina+Kippi and Maggi live

Sólrún, María, Edda and Hildur four Icelandic women in their mid twenties collectively known as amiina first decided they wanted to write music together in 2004. They gathered together every last instrument they could find and piled them into their car. They then filled every available bit of space with food. This, they maintain, was a very, very important part of the process. But it was also very nearly the act that prevented the birth of amiina. Their overloaded car was unable to struggle up the steep mountainous incline to the studio they had chosen, and had a local farmer not towed them to their destination with his tractor amiina might never have come to be.The quartet's music is made with a great number of instruments. It contains elements of minimalistic style, contemporary classical, ambient, and electronic loops. In amiina there are no specific assignments: no official bass player, drummer, guitarist or singer [www.kippikaninus.com].

IMPRESSIVE ART MADE WITH TAPE
Using duct, electrical, and vinyl tape, Rebecca Ward symmetrically aligns each color line.
Notes from the artist’s statement: “My installations are site-specific works dependent upon the space they occupy. Utilizing existing lines, beams, and angles, each piece I create is informed by the individual site and its unique linear movement. Thus, my installations are inherently architectural. I choose patterns and shapes according to detailed measurements of the installation site. Ideally these patterns are numerically symmetrical or somehow numerically balanced, producing a dialogue between line and space. I initially began working with tape because of the broad range of colors in which it is available. Additionally, I have always been drawn to its unique textural qualities”.
